Amidst a howl of slow-news-day publicity and newspaper hyperbole a new adult store is set to open in the historic town of Stratford-Upon-Avon on Friday 5 June 2009.

Owned by Katie Gilbert the proprietor of “Adam and Eve”, a sex shop in Evesham, it is situated in a central location and has caused a bit of a stir.

Cllr Jenny Fradgley Mayor of Stratford is reported to have said that the shop is incompatible with the “world class image” of Stratford.

Rev Martin Gorick, of Holy Trinity Church, last resting place of the bard himself has referred to the shop as seedy. Interesting as it has yet to open.

If Ms Gilbert is to be believed (and one assumes this is the understanding on which planning permission for the shop was granted), the shop will sell “mainly “tasteful lingerie”. It will also stock “fun dressing-up” items, as well as a selection of sexual health products and some “adult toys”. Sounds pretty inoffensive to us.

In fact, from our memories of Stratford an even more offensive site is the MacDonalds restaurant on Bridge Street.

Love Land Theme Park

Apparently in the spirit of education and enlightenment a theme park was set up recently in China to promote sexual health and education amongst a society that has traditionally been reserved about discussing sexual matters.

Sadly, the attraction has been pulled down by the authorities before it opened. While the owner expressed his wish that the park should avoid being tacky he did choose to erect a huge statue, depicting the underwear clad bottom half of a woman standing with its legs spread wide at the entrance to the park.

Maybe he wasn’t the right person to set up such an attraction in the first place.

In another blow to wider acceptance of non-heterosexual sexualities a demonstration by gay rights activists was broken up in Moscow in the run up to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Admittedly the demonstration had been banned. But why? Demonstrations against the gay rights protesters by “Nationalist” and religious groups were allowed to go ahead. It’s a worrying development both for Russia in particular and for the cause of tolerance across the world.

Sasha Grey

While writing my previous post about Sasha Grey’s new film Malice In La La Land I realized how little I knew about her. So here’s a quick resume of the starlet for those of you who, like me, need to catch up with her career.

Sasha was born on 14 March 1988 in Sacramento California.

She now lives in New York.

She’s 5’6” tall, weight 110 pounds with a 32B-26-31 figure.

She has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Moved to LA in 2006 to begin a career in adult films.

Sasha is already winning AVN awards (best three way scene January 2007), but although nominated didn’t win the best New Starlet Category. The competition must have been pretty stiff for that title, as were the men in the audience I suspect. In 2008 she did become the youngest performer to win the AVN Best female Performer award.

Sasha is that rare adult performer who seems to be making a success in the adult and mainstream movie and modelling industry. She’s been featured on the Smashing Pumpkins’ 2007 album cover “Zeitgeist” as well as gaining critical praise for her appearance in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience”

Not just your average porn star.

Bad Alice

Malice In La La Land looks like it’s going to be a sensational movie? Not heard of it, well that’s not surprising as it doesn’t start filming until 9 July 2009.

My source inside the production team was chatting to me on Friday and let slip a few really exciting pieces of information.

The movie will feature car chases and “explosions”.

The CGI effects are going to be undertaken by a couple of experts from Pixar.

The sets? Well so far we’re led to believe that they’ve spent €40,000 (Yes forty thousand Euro)

Car chases, explosions, amazing sets and CGI? Adult movies have really come of age don’t you think.

And one more tiny point. The movie will star the sensational starlet from Sacramento – Sasha Grey.

More news when we get it, if that wasn’t enough for you to be getting excited about.

ILF Inc have announced that they have sold 2 million Fleshlights in the ten years since it was created.

Chris Marcus is quoted as saying “At a moment like this, we are grateful to all of our customers, and all of the people who have made our product into what it has become today,” said CEO Steve Shubin. “To see something that began as a mission to help men find a safe and pleasurable outlet for self-gratification transform into an international phenomenon is truly something special.”

To mark the event ILF are retailing the original Fleshlight at $49.95 – the original price – for a whole month. They’re billing this as an introductory and celebratory offer to encourage new users to try the product. Nothing at all to do with the recession hitting sales, honest.

Seriously though. It is nice to see a quality product like the Fleshlight still going strong after all this time.
