To know that the film Sexcula is back is I suppose kind of meaningless if you never knew it existed in the first place and for most people that’s exactly their point of view. The low budget, obscure movie was put together in 1974 as an erotic-horror title whose sole purpose it would appear was to act as a tax write-off under now defunct Canadian tax laws.
Apart from the odd storyline, a 20 minute porn movie within a movie and a girl doing an interpretive dance with a guy in a gorilla costume the movie would probably make most viewers cringe. Lucky then that it never received a release and at the time of its making would have been illegal to screen in Canada.
On 25 October 2013 however the almost forgotten example of a sexploitation movie was shown at Vancity Theatre in Vancouver. We guess to an appreciative audience of über-geeks who lapped it up and enjoyed the gorilla.
One final note, it is claimed that the crew who also made the kid’s classic TV show “The Littlest Hobo” filmed the production naked. There’s no word if they were naked during the showing as the original cast and crew were scheduled to attend!
