Should Sex Toys Be Classified As Porn?

According to French law they are.  Busnel the owner of an adult store in Paris went on trial today for violating porn laws in Paris, France.

It is claimed that he was selling his merchandise within 200 yards of a school which is illegal in France.  But Mr Nicolas Busnel claims that his products which include dildos and vibrators are not porn but erotic.

Complaints had been filed against him by two Christian groups, the Love and Family Association and the National Confederation of Catholic Family Associations (CNAFC).

Busnel’s solicitor, Richard Malka said that “There are as many definitions of pornography as there are people and Busnel that limiting adult stores in such a way would they could only thrive in cemeteries, parks and on train tracks.

Henri de Beauregard added “there was little doubt the shop’s products were porn.  “You can say that a sex shop is a ‘love shop,’ that a dildo is a ‘sex toy’… but these are just words,” he said. “The simple truth is that we have here a sex shop that sells pornography.”

Busnel currently faces two years in prison and being fined £30,000 if convicted.  This could prove to be a test case for the adult industry in France.  It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.
