AHF Condoms In Porn

On Tuesday 3 January 2012 the Aids Healthcare Foundation petitioned LA County voters with the aim of collecting enough signatures to change the law regarding the use of condoms during the filming of porn.

Last week the AHF managed to gain enough signatures to start the legal process to make the wearing of condoms mandatory for films made within the City of Angels but now seek to extend the scope of the proposed new laws to the whole of LA County. For this to happen they will need to collect more than 200,000 signatures by 5 June 2012.

The new measures proposed will make the wearing of condoms mandatory and require producers to obtain a permit for each production from the Los Angeles Department For Public Health. A permit that they will have to pay an as yet undisclosed fee for. Producers are obviously wary of the extra cost and potential delays to productions that these proposed measures will cause. Failure to obtain a suitable permit (which the AHF say are based around the licencing measures already in place for tattoo parlours and bathhouses) could result in fines or even misdemeanour charges against producers.

The AHF cite LA State labour laws in their arguments for the measures but unsurprisingly adult industry groups are on the whole against making the wearing of condoms mandatory – even though some performers and studios have already adopted their use voluntarily.

The AHF have bigger plans and aim eventually to make other state legislatures enact similar laws in efforts to ensure no porn filmed in the US contains unprotected sex.
